Preserving a bit of Long Island historycase studies home

Historical Find 1: Water cistern for the animals at Sagamore Hill, Home of Theodore Roosevelt - President of the United States.

Oyster Bay, NY

This hole was discovered while excavating a new road on the property near the Vistor Center. What a great find. It was worth holding up the job for two days while museum staff determined what this might have been. Ultimately we re- routed the road so the site was not covered over.

Historical Find No. 2: The U.S. Liberty Vessel J.P. Henderson Monument, Kings Point Merchant Academy Kings Point, NY

The Stone was found on May 4, 2009 while excavating for new roadway. It was to honor those who lost theie lives in WWII. This monument was lost on the property for a number of years until found by Lindley Bros. Asphalt Paving Inc. Machine Operator David Barrows, long-time friend and the best 963 Track Loader operator on Long Island. His memory lives on.

The Monument is now stored at the museum on the property.
